Daily Bread Project

Share your bread

Every day millions of Pakistani children go to bed hungry. Many elderly people are starving because they have no way to make a living in their old age and there is no retirement income at all.

Many times we receive calls from people who are struggling just to get enough food each day. With a compassionate and broken heart, we always try to help somehow, for example by sending some money whenever we can. We hear a story after story of these suffering and struggling people, so we are always trying to think of creative ways to help these precious people.

In South Asia, bread is a staple food. People eat it three times each day, usually with a small amount of vegetables, soup, and, very rarely, with some meat. Sometimes they just eat bread with spices, but the biggest portion of their daily meal is plain bread.

Most people buy white, bleached, processed flour from the market to make their daily bread. They prepare it fresh and serve their families warm bread with each meal.

The sad part is that the flour from the store is refined and with additives to keep it “fresh” longer, and it is harmful to the body. Because they are consuming this bread in such large amounts, their health declines day by day. Many times even that unhealthy flour is not available in the markets. People stand in lines for hours just to get flour. Sometimes people cannot get any flour at all for many days in a row.

In 2020 we came up with 7 practical steps how to provide healthy bread for hundreds of hungry and suffering people.

1. Buy whole wheat grain in bulk straight from the farms.

2. Buy it during the harvest time (it’s almost half price)

3. Store the grains in secure storage places.

4. Install a grinder machine / a mill

5. Grind the grains

6. Register the needy people using special forms and home inspections.

7. Distribute the flour every month.

Our goal is to provide for one community or a city at a time. Once this is working well, we hope to expand to different cities and then countries.

For this year, we are planning to provide whole wheat flour to at least 100 needy families.

How will this look in practice?

We are currently searching for large storage spaces where we can keep grains throughout the year.

We have already located one mill in the shop. We will use this to grind the whole wheat grains and distribute to the families in need.

Our main focus is on children and elderly, those who are unable to provide for themselves.

April-May is the time of wheat harvest in Pakistan. Because the cost is half the usual price during the harvest, this is the best time to purchase the wheat. Once the harvest is complete, prices rise very quickly.

One 40 kg (88 lb) sack costs about $15 during the harvest time. Later on, the cost rises to up to $30 for the same amount of grains.

Buying straight from the farmers during the season is the least expensive option.

Our family (Samson and I) are planning to provide for 50 bags of grains.

You can participate with us and send your donations to buy as many bags as you want. 10, 15, 30, 100. There are no limits because we want to have such Centers of help in each region of Pakistan, eventually hoping to cover India, Nepal, and Bangladesh.

For now, we are starting this project in one city.

If we are able to provide healthy bread for 100 families this year, that’s a big win!

It is a great joy and privilege for us to be a part of someone’s life who is crying to God each day for their daily bread.

You are welcome to partner with us!

One extended family of 7 in Pakistan consumes about one full (40 kg) bag of flour per month.

The math is simple. In order to provide bread for 100 families for the whole year we need to buy about 1200 bags.

When you are sending money for this project, make sure to mention that it is to purchase wheat, and each dollar or euro will go specifically to purchase grain straight from the farms at the lowest price of the harvest season.

We are excited to be a part of this amazing mission. We joyfully look forward to sharing our bread with needy and suffering people.

It is happening!

This year we purchased 800 sacks of quality grain, transported it to the city and stored at a storage unit. There is one flour distribution center in Islamabad and another one in a village near the city of Sialkot. So far there is no mill in this village, so we just give out the grain to the needy people and they have to find a mill to make flour.
